Rogaland Havbrukspark is a research facility that provides entrepreneurs and start-ups with access to shared infrastructure, making it easier to begin testing and developing new aquaculture species — with minimal investment and reduced risk.
The Story
The idea behind Rogaland Havbrukspark emerged from a growing need among land-based aquaculture players for shared facilities. Several of them required more time-efficient testing environments and a way to reduce the initial risk of development. At Finnøy, a shared platform with infrastructure and facilities was established, enabling early-stage testing without the need to build everything from scratch. Today, the park has become a launchpad for entrepreneurs in the aquaculture sector — and a research lab with licenses to work with as many as 27 different species.
Direction and Development
The collaboration with TEAL has been linked to several practical and strategic development initiatives. One key initiative is the establishment of a demonstration kitchen - a space where producers can showcase and test their products directly with potential customers and markets. The kitchen will be used for tastings, cooking demonstrations, and events. In addition, the park’s website has been upgraded to strengthen its content and profile. Rogaland Havbrukspark also hosts an Aquapreneur network, which aims to reduce risk for start-ups and support the sustainable commercialization of new species and innovative aquaculture solutions.
