When Oddbjørg Måland and Ole Klingsheim bought the property by the quay at Fogn two years ago, they saw the opportunity to create something more. Today, the place offers high-standard accommodation, a cozy brewery, and a café – a meeting point where good experiences, local food and a strong sense of community come together.

With views of the fjord and just steps away from the express boat, Oddbjørg and Ole have created a place that blends tradition with innovation. Guests gather here for hearty meals, homemade beer and warm hospitality – whether they come to stay overnight, drop by the café in the boathouse, or sit together around the long table in the brewery.

When the renovation of Naustet was completed in the summer of 2024, Fogn gained a new gathering place. On the second floor you’ll find an Airbnb apartment that has had a record season in 2025, fully booked from May well into October. Naustet is ranked among the top 1% of Airbnb listings worldwide, with a perfect 5 out of 5 stars in every category – from cleanliness and communication to location and value for money. With 100% top ratings and “Guest Favorite” status, Oddbjørg and Ole have also earned the Superhost title three years in a row.
On the ground floor, Naustbryggeriet has become a social hub. The long table seats 12, but often holds far more, and in summer the atmosphere spills out onto the quay where guests enjoy a cold drink in the sun.
“It should feel cozy and down-to-earth,” says Oddbjørg.
Right next to Naustet are three boathouses, one of which Oddbjørg and Ole have turned into a café. Here they serve their famous tomato soup – made from cosmetically imperfect tomatoes from Tomatpakkeriet at Fogn that would otherwise be discarded.
“It adds an extra dimension knowing the tomatoes would have been thrown away. The quality and taste are just as good, and we know we’re helping to reduce food waste,” says Oddbjørg.
In addition to the soup, the café offers cakes and coffee, and visitors can also buy fresh bread and pastries. The café opens on special occasions, and the response has been overwhelming. Pensioner associations, hiking groups and DNT teams (the Norwegian Trekking Association) have several times requested serving after their hikes to the Ørnareiret cabin – requests that Oddbjørg is always happy to accommodate.
The plans ahead are ambitious. Oddbjørg and Ole want to build a fully equipped kitchen in the middle boathouse, and adapt the last one for rental events such as conferences, Christmas parties, christenings, memorial gatherings and more. In the long run, they also want to establish a shop with local products, so visitors can take a taste of Fogn home with them.

After a busy summer, Naustet is now turning its focus to Christmas. On two Saturdays, November 29 and December 13, they will open their doors for a festive atmosphere with traditional food, cakes, coffee and other treats in the café, while the brewery will be open in the afternoons. Local producers such as Øy-is and Halsnøy Safteri will also take part, and a fishing boat at the quay will offer freshly caught seafood. Among the products for sale are the popular, hand-knitted wool socks from Mor Åse – made from natural wool and felted for warmth and durability.
Naustet at Fogn is built on a strong sense of community. Oddbjørg and Ole want to involve other producers on the island, offering them the chance to use the kitchen or sell their products in the café. “It should be easy to collaborate, and we feel that people are cheering us on,” says Oddbjørg. That same community spirit is evident when neighbors and friends volunteer to help out, whether it’s with the dishes or supporting events.
As a "målbedrift" in TEAL, Naustet has also received support in developing the venture further. With Anders as contact person, we have contributed to the design of the kitchen, sourcing equipment, culinary advice and mapping the current state of sustainability. Naustet at Fogn shows how hospitality, collaboration and care for the environment can turn an idea into a living promise – “litt adle sitt” (“a little bit of everyone’s”).
